Dongfeng's 16,000T Die-cast Battery Case Rolled Off the Line & Delivered! China Die Casting Congress
On January 21st, the first product from Dongfeng Motor's 16,000-ton integrated die-casting production line—the battery casing—successfully rolled off the line and was delivered. The delivery of this product marks a critical breakthrough for Dongfeng Motor in the lightweight and integrated manufacturing of core components for new energy vehicles. It also injects strong momentum into the automotive industry's efforts to cultivate new quality productive forces oriented toward future development.

You Zheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee and Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, attended the delivery ceremony. Also present were: Xia Xiaochuan, Secretary of the CPC Committee and Chairman of Yuechuang Technology; Gao Shouwu, Deputy General Manager of Yuechuang Technology and General Manager of Dongfeng Technology (a subsidiary of Dongfeng Motor Corporation); and Zhan Xin, Vice President of the Dongfeng Motor Corporation R&D Institute and Chairman of its Labor Union. Representatives from the integrated die-casting project team, as well as relevant leaders from the Dongfeng Motor Corporation R&D Institute and EP Technology, were also in attendance.

On site, You Zheng unveiled the integrated die-cast battery pack tray. Representatives from the Dongfeng Motor R&D Institute, EP Technology, and Dongfeng Technology jointly signed the product acceptance agreement, marking the official entry of the product into the mass production and application stage.

You Zheng stated that as China moves toward its 15th Five-Year Plan period, the automotive industry is undergoing profound transformations driven by intelligentization, low-carbon practices, and industrial integration. Independently mastering disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence and integrated die-casting has become a critical pathway toward high-quality development. It is essential to persistently update perspectives with a global outlook, maintain a deep respect for disruptive technologies, and continue deepening open collaboration across the industrial chain. He expressed hope that the integrated die-casting R&D team will boldly pursue breakthroughs and innovation, uphold the "Third Front Spirit" and Dongfeng's "Lantern Spirit," and persistently tackle challenges in cutting-edge areas such as materials and processes. By genuinely creating value for users through technology, the team will contribute to Dongfeng's decisive success during the 15th Five-Year Plan period and steadily advance toward the forefront of the global automotive industry's development.

The battery housing delivered this time is the first product mass-produced by Dongfeng Motor's integrated die-casting production line. It was jointly developed over 14 months through an innovative "whole-chain collaboration" mechanism between the Dongfeng Motor R&D Institute and Yuechuang Technology.

Compared with traditional production methods, the integrated die-cast battery housing employs a highly integrated design, which significantly enhances the safety of the vehicle’s power battery system. It also contributes to body weight reduction, lower energy consumption, and effectively extends the driving range of new energy vehicles. With the launch of this product, Dongfeng Motor will become the first automaker in the industry to achieve a comprehensive integrated die-casting layout covering the front, middle, and rear sections of the vehicle body.

Dongfeng Motor, as the first automaker in China to introduce the 16,000-ton integrated die-casting technology, has pioneered innovative approaches in the integrated development of vehicles and components, as well as deep collaboration across the industrial chain.

In the future, Dongfeng Motor will continue to advance the production capacity for key components such as integrated die-cast battery housings and vehicle bodies across multiple models. It will also tackle technological challenges related to large-scale ultra-thin-wall battery pack casings and explore the application of advanced materials like magnesium alloys in die-casting. These efforts aim to further enhance the lightweight performance of vehicles and secure a leading technological position in the "second half" of the intelligent automotive era.
