China Die Casting Congress Factory & University Visit
Route 4: National Key Laboratory of Material Formingand Mold Technology
The 21st China Die Casting Congress will be held in Wuhan, China from March 25 to 27. Under the theme of "Al & Mg, Casting a Lighter Future", it will gather global industry leaders to jointly shape the lightweight future.
Factory & University Visit
Approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in November 2022, the State Key Laboratory of Materials Processing and Die & Mould Technology was officially established. The laboratory is positioned for applied fundamental research, aiming to build itself into a national strategic scientific and technological force in the field of materials forming technology and equipment, and to become an internationally top-tier base for scientific research, talent cultivation, and academic exchange in materials forming.
Addressing the critical needs for the forming and manufacturing of large-scale complex components and functional devices in fields such as aerospace, marine engineering, and strategic emerging industries, the laboratory focuses on the scientific exploration of performance evolution laws in materials forming processes under multi-energy fields. It innovates new concepts, principles, and methods for materials forming processes and equipment, and aims to achieve breakthroughs in key technologies including the mechanisms of materials forming and high-precision simulation, intelligent design and manufacturing of high-end molds, and high-performance forming technologies and equipment. The goal is to produce significant original achievements and make irreplaceable, substantial contributions to China's national defense development and the growth of its pillar industries.
The laboratory originated from the State Key Laboratory of Plastic Forming Simulation and Die & Mould Technology, established in 1989, and has successfully passed four national evaluations. It has received 25 national-level science and technology awards, including 2 Natural Science Awards, 5 Technology Invention Awards, and 18 Science and Technology Progress Awards. The laboratory has consistently remained at the research forefront of materials forming and mold technology, continuously leading the development direction of forming simulation software. It has been internationally recognized as "one of the two most active and important research institutions" in the field of forming simulation. It leads the development of intelligent injection molding technology, with its polymer laser sintering additive manufacturing technology achieving world-leading levels. As the only institution globally providing dedicated system research for a full range of materials forming simulations including injection and encapsulation, it shoulders the national mission of addressing the critical challenge ("bottleneck") of industrial simulation software in the forming sector. Its achievements—such as materials forming simulation software, digital mold design and manufacturing systems, laser sintering additive manufacturing technology, and polymer injection molding—have been applied in over 3,000 enterprises. These play a pivotal role in advancing pillar industries, have resolved manufacturing challenges for a batch of key components in aerospace, marine, and other fields, and have strongly supported the innovative development of defense equipment.
The laboratory has assembled a strong research team led by academicians and national-level leading talents, with mid-career and young researchers forming the backbone. The team currently includes: 2 Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; 6 Distinguished Professors and 10 Young Scholars under the Ministry of Education's "Chang Jiang Scholars Program"; 9 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; 24 recipients (including overseas) of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars; 1 recipient of the JKW Outstanding Young Scientist Fund; 6 Leading Talents in Technological Innovation and 6 Young Top-notch Talents under the National "Ten Thousand Talents Plan"; 3 selected for the National "Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project"; 1 Leading Talent and 19 Young Scholars under the National "Program for Introducing Talents of High Level"; 12 selected for the Ministry of Education's "Program for New Century Excellent Talents"; 6 Clarivate Global Highly Cited Researchers; 10 Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researchers; 1 Key Field Innovation Team under the MOST Innovation Talent Promotion Program; 2 Ministry of Education Innovation Teams; and 6 Hubei Provincial Innovation Groups.
Also organized by the Foundry Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (FICMES), CHINA DIECASTING & CHINA NONFERROUS expo 2026, will be held from July 15 to 17, 2026 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre (Halls N1–N4). As Asia's largest specialized exhibition for die casting and nonferrous foundry, this edition, under the theme "Twin Engines: Al & Mg, A Lightweight Future," is expected to span 49,200 square meters, attract over 600 exhibitors, and welcome 28,000 professional visitors. Colleagues from around the world are warmly invited to visit and exchange insights.
